About Osteopathy

Dr. A.T. Still coined the term Osteopathy in 1874  using the Greek word osteon - bone and pathos - suffering. His teachings communicate to us that disease and physiologic dysfunction are etiologically recorded in the musculoskeletal system. Diagnosing and treating the musculoskeletal system, he proved that osteopathy can treat a variety of diseases in patients and avoid the negative side effects of drugs.

Dr. Still was a visionary, philosopher, and inventor. He studied nature, animals, human anatomy, and physiology. He explained it in terms of physical, chemical, and mechanical laws.

In osteopathy, we often hear "the rule of the artery is supreme".  What does that mean?

The primary pathway of communication in the body is the bloodstream. The nervous system plays a central role, however, the quality of the nervous tissues as well as the somatic and organic tissues is determined by the quality of its supply. The quality of the supply is in the freedom of the blood flow,  and in the function of the blood.

The first thing the blood does,  prior to entering the systemic system,  is travel to the lungs to pick up fresh oxygen and drop off waste carbon dioxide.

Lungs are the source of clean nutritious blood which will then bring nutrients and life force to all other physiological processes.  This is where "the artery reigns supreme" and where the magic happens, without oxygen and nutrition everything else stops.

About Ruzica

about
Ruzica

"Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". ~ Lau Tzu

I read somewhere that there are 4  stages in life,  and later stages could gift us with wisdom. In my early years, my interests focused on philosophy,  truth, and the search for a just world. Later work in Advertising and Entertainment industry  provided creative insight into my learning.  In 2003  I discovered Bikram Yoga & Vipassana meditation;  five hundred  hours  yoga teacher training course in Los Angeles  was a ticket to my Bikram Yoga Toronto East studio. After ten years of running and operating my own yoga studio, I was called to take on formal study of human body and what constitutes health. In 2014 I discovered Osteopathy.

Today I am a classically trained Osteopathic Practitioner. My formal education in Osteopathy started with 4 years of study of anatomy, physiology, and mechanics of movement.  With over a thousand hours of clinical practice, I have developed and honed my palpation skills and applied my understanding of medical theory in a clinical setting. Restriction of motion, asymmetry, quality of tissues are our markers;  I learned to differentiate healthy from diseased, functional from dysfunctional.  I am trained to look for health and not the disease.

Our body's innate systems are designed to build, restore, clean, and renew to a perfect health. Sometime it just needs a little help.

My passion is to help individuals find health in their bodies so that they can live the life they are meant to live.

About Adam

Adam is a Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner as well as a professional associate of the Ontario Osteopathic Association.

In 2021, Adam completed a five year intensive master's diploma in Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy.

As an avid sports fan, I always had a keen interest in the human body. Upon completing exercise science in secondary school, it was clear to me that I was destined to work in a field where I could use my understanding of the human body to benefit others. I discovered osteopathy through the recommendations of friends & family and was immediately drawn to its emphasis of searching for health rather than disease. Five years of extensive academic & clinical rotations has provided me with a meticulous understanding of anatomy, as well as a variety of interpersonal skills, obtained throughout clinical rotations.

My approach to Osteopathic treatment is unique, innovative and patient centred. Osteopathic treatment can consist of the following, but is not limited to: Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy Techniques, Poisitional Release Therapy, Articular Adjustments, Visceral Manipulation, and Cranial-Sacral Therapy.

"The improvements I’ve  experienced in my health ailments since receiving treatment from Ruzica are truly remarkable.
I was having severe pain in my left leg from a Baker’s Cyst.  The pain was so bad I was walking with a limp and had difficulty going up and down stairs.   After one session with Ruzica the pain was almost gone and I could walk normally again.  There was more relief from the pain after the second time I saw Ruzica to the point where the pain was completely gone.
Ruzica’s treatment has also helped me dramatically with urination problems I have had for several years caused by enlarged prostate (BPH).  After one treatment from Ruzica I went to the washroom and had a very comfortable, normal urination.  She gave me several exercises to do to continue improving and maintaining my urination.
I think Ruzica is a very knowledgeable and skilful Osteopath and my only regret is that I wish I had come to see her a lot sooner.
I would highly recommend Ruzica to family & friends."

"Ruzica is an amazing Osteopath! After my first treatment with her my menopausal hot flashes have literally disappeared and the quality of my sleep has improved immensely. I look forward to continuing treatments with her!"

"Ruzica is a very talented osteopathic therapist who brings elements of holistic healing modalities into her practice.  I deeply appreciated the inner work, physically and emotionally, that took place on her treatment table.  Through working with the body, and bringing awareness and space through the breath and her therapeutic touch, I was able to release tension within my physically body, as well as in my emotional and mental body; after three treatments I walked out feeling re-aligned with decreased pain, increased movement and ease. I found treatments with Ruzica to be very beneficial and would highly recommend her to others; a gifted osteopathic therapist and healer."
